With pantyhose over my face and a water gun in hand, I made my move…
Twenty years ago, during a stroke of genius in honor of my best friend Liz, the “birthday kidnapping” was born. And my life was forever changed. Liz always said that if she could be anything else, she’d be a bird, just to feel what it’s like to fly.
So, my research began. I discovered that the closest a human can get to the silent, drifting-on-thermals feeling of a bird is through paragliding.
And so, at 4 a.m., armed with an incredibly elaborate ransom note, pantyhose over my face (just like in the movies), and a fully loaded squirt gun, Liz was abducted from her house. Five hours later, we were strapped into parachutes, looking over the edge of a mountain, about to become birds…
Since that day, my loved ones and I have experienced scuba diving, gold mining, caving, waterfall rappelling, skydiving, hot air ballooning, tango dancing, orb balling, swimming with sharks, rock climbing, swimming with manatees, doors-off helicopter rides… basically all of the most epic moments of my life. My very best memories, my most prized possessions—they all stem from the idea that birthdays could be so much more than just cake and a pretty thing in a box.

He refused to let his bride to be get in the car in the dark with a total stranger, which was our solution to creating a first look with just one rental car, and he instisted we meet before their sunrise elopment day. As we chatted and laughed and ate amazing local treats I decided to dig a bit deeper… is there anything you are stressed about? “I’m just… anxious” she revealed reluctantly and her tone of voice, the pause, the tilt of her shoulders… I could feel her nervousness and it was not at all what I wanted for her. I could tell that he was her rock, her protector, who she leaned on and it just came to me… we need a safe word.

Your gown is gorgeous and I am not about truly trashing anything so special… but I do believe in really loving it up. And don’t worry, its amazing how a good dry cleaning will erase all signs of the adventure we had!
